While on the eve of Valentine’s Day, various shops in the State capital are enticing the lovers and couples with attractive items meant  for the celebration, some Hindu hardliners have planned to disrupt the celebration as they consider it as an affront  to the Indian culture.

“Originating from the Western trash, it is now out to capture the Indian youths in its vicious mesh,” said a local Shiv Sena leader Asish.

Police are on their toes to keep the celebration peaceful on Sunday. Dehradun SSP Dr Sadanand Date said that in view of the youths celebrating the day in restaurants, hotels, parks and other places, Dehradun city area has been divided into two zones, 11 sectors and 30 sub-sectors. Deputy SP has been made in-charge of the zones while inspectors and police station in- charges would man things at the level of sectors and sub-sectors. They will be responsible for security, traffic and peaceful completion of V-day celebration, Date said.

Police patrolling team comprising a sub-inspector and two constables has been formed too and they have been directed to conduct patrolling, Date added.  Cheetah police would also conduct patrolling in their assigned areas, he said.
