Police officer pulled up over law and order situation

Finance Minister and MlA from Haldwani Indira Hridayesh despite being considered as the most powerful Minister in the Chief Minister Harish Rawat Cabinet, her directions regarding law and order seemed to have little impact on Nainital district police.

She herself admitted it as she sounded disturbed over Nainital district police defying her directive on Monday. “There is no follow-up regarding the directions that I gave them at a meeting on maintaining law and order,” she said. She even pulled up SSP Nainital Senthil Akdai Krishna Raj for sitting on her directives.

Police doing nothing to verify the antecedents of the migrants who are coming in their hordes to Haldwani from neighbouring UP’s Hardoi, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Badayun, Moradabad and Bijnor for employment seems to have disturbed her the most. According to her, Nainital district police does not have any record of the huge number of migrants who are coming here for livelihood. She directed SSP Nainital to provide six- month record of such migrants.

Mention worthy, a migratory labourer was an accused of the rape cum murder case involving a minor girl that happened in Haldwani in November 2014.

Though there is no major crime in Naintal district since the horrendous one- save for some sporadic mining-related violence- Haldwani being the commercial capital of Kumaon remains sensitive from law and order point of view.

Aware of the fact that the time for her to approach the electorate drawing near, she pulled up Nainital district police for its failure to curb robberies and chain snatching.

With tourist season having commenced, number of such crime cases is on the spiral and police are doing nothing to apprehend the miscreants, the minister maintained.

However, she expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the recently launched city patrol unit (CPU) in Haldwani, saying that the regular Nainital district police force should take lessons  from CPU unit in terms of efficiency.
