With the district police directing all its efforts on the human chain event, the results have them patting their backs. Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi said that the programme was first of its kind and therefore was a challenge for the department, but the combined efforts had paid well. He also said that they will be conducting a review of the programme to check what all points can be included in the planning of such an event in case if it is planned in the future.
He further said, “The police teams executed the traffic plan perfectly. In fact, shortly after completion of the event, the traffic resumed as usual.”
SP (traffic) Prakash Chandra Arya said, “The biggest challenge during the event was to maintain traffic situation in the city. We took measures in advance, traffic flow from outside the city was stopped from entering the city limits.
The traffic flow was diverted from bypass and other junctions, because of which its flow was comparatively less. The second step we took was to stop city buses, Vikrams and autos from operating-they were used only for dropping school students, which also helped. Citizens also were aware about the programme schedule, as we also were continuously appealing to the general public for using internal routes during the programme.”
When asked about the things that they will include in the next planning of such an event he said, “Next time we might think about taking more time while planning such an event. The planning requires multiple aspects, from traffic to law and order.”
