To fill the vacant post of home guards, the police department is going to send another reminder to the State Government for the recruitment of 946 home guards in the State, said Additional Director General of Police Ram Singh Meena on Thursday.
Several welfare schemes are being implemented by the State government for the welfare of home guards and their families. The home guards have also been accorded up to five percent reservation in the recruitment of constables, he added.
Meena said that recently, the state government has increased the daily wages of home guards from Rs 200 to Rs 250. Around 4, 000 home guards are serving in different wings of the police department and State Government. They are employed in the police department as per the requirement. He further said that home guards are recruited after physical test conducted by the department. After their
selection, they undergo training for about 50 days. Home guards are given training at police training centre, Haldwani and Srinagar in the state.
According to Meena, home guards are being rewarded at par with police constables for executing their tasks effectively in cracking cases. The provision of age relaxation has also been made available to home guards when they apply for any posts in police and fire services, he added.
Home guard Ram Ratan, deputed on traffic duty in Dehradun said, “We are deployed for maintaining law and order, crime and traffic duties and as computer operators and receptionists in the police department. Attending emergency duties is one of the tasks in the long list of duties of home guards. Home guards are handling all the jobs at par with the police constables. We are given tasks throughout the year but we are paid only Rs 250 per day which amounts to about Rs 7,500 per month. It has become difficult for us to bear the home expenses in these times of rising prices of all the essential commodities, tuition fees for our children and other expenses. We should be paid Rs 10, 000 per month to meet our monthly expenses,” he said.
