Dehradun police has claimed to achieve a major breakthrough in the sensational fraud case in which a city -based businessman was forced to hand over an amount of Rs 22 lakhs to a team of conmen who raided his house, posing as officers of Enforcement Directorate, reminiscent of the popular Hindi heist film Special-26.
Sadanand Date, senior superintendent of police, announced on Thursday that two of the gang-both women- have been arrested. They were arrested by police and Special Operation Group (SOG) team from a flat in Jehangirpuri, Delhi. According to police, the accused came in a car -D.l 3 CAQ-0504- which had been trailed through a camera.
The incident took place at the residence of Yashpal Tandon at Race Course on November 2. The gang comprised two women and six men. Posing as officers of Enforcement Directorate (income tax), they grabbed valuables from his house. They also allegedly threatened Tandon and demanded money to help him avoid strict legal action. The gang also took away his scooty which was later recovered by police from Kargi Chowk.
Based on information provided by Tandon, the district police had prepared a sketch of one of eight gang members. SSP Dr Sadanand Shankar Rao Date had then deployed SOG at various places to nab the accused. The CCTV footages were traced and rigorous tracking helped police to arrest two of the accused.
According to SP, during interrogation, the girls said they- Baby and Rakhi -are residents of Jehangipuri, Delhi. Quizzed further, Baby informed that the masterminds of the plan was Vijay Singh with his her brother Bablu assisting him in the frauds. The duo is still absconding.
According to her, it was Vijay who had gathered all the members and plotted the forgery against the victim Yashpal Tandon. SSP said that investigation is going on in full swing to nab other members of the gang.
