Some police officers looked baffled coming across glaring contradictions between what had learnt over their wireless sets on Monday night and the reports they read in the newspapers about Monday night’s petrol pump robbery on Tuesday morning. They said the wireless messages had dubbed the incident as a scuffle while asking them to arrest three persons who were fleeing from Patelnagar area following the scuffle.
They were convinced that the dilution of the incident by misrepresenting a robbery as a mere scuffle was intentional. It means Dehradun police had tried to suppress the reality to spare themselves the blame of things. Several senior police officers said they had been unaware of the loot and they came to know what had happened through newspaper reports the following morning. They said such misrepresentation of the fact, swapping petrol pump loot for a mere scuffle stopped them from rising to the occasion in full. “Had we been informed rightly we would have been more active to nab the criminals,” rued a senior cop.
