Substance abuse is a major challenge facing society and to tackle this, there is need for raising awareness to unite society against this problem. The Uttarakhand Director General of police Anil K Raturi said this while speaking at a workshop organised by the State police to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here on Tuesday.
He said, “The task of the police is to enforce the law and to tackle this challenge better coordination will have to be established between the police and citizens. We assure the public that in case they provide any information regarding this, the police officers will stand with them. We will surely take action on information provided by the public and also provide security to them,” he added.
The additional DGP (Crime, law and Order) Ashok Kumar said that in crimes related to drugs complainants seldom come forward. Substance abuse is a problem which poses a threat to society and the nation. He said, “We will have to expand enforcement to tackle this problem. For this, the police will form a three-tier anti drugs task force at the police station, district and State levels.
The citizens are requested to provide information to the police so that effective measures can be taken against the problem of drugs.” Kumar further said that one drug officer each should be appointed in all schools and colleges. Such officers and members of non governmental organisations should establish coordination with anti drugs task force and work for tackling this problem, he said.
