Following the orders of Superintendent of Police (traffic) Prakash Chandra Arya, parking on the side of the road adjoining police headquarters has been banned for everyone. Due to this many of the police personnel and staff working in PHQ were seen complaining and parking their vehicles outside Saint Joseph’s Academy (SJA) even though no-parking boards were installed earlier by the police on this stretch of the road.
SP Arya said, “The orders were issued to ensure smooth traffic outside PHQ. If police personnel will not uphold the law and set an example then what can be expected from common citizens.”
When asked about the primary problem of parking that is faced when the SJA is open he said, “We have planned to speak with school authorities again so that they get at least two-wheeler riders to park inside their campus.
For four wheelers we will make one lane on the road for particular time periods. The vehicles which arrive early will be parked there while the rest of the vehicles will be parked at the parking area near the secretariat.”
Complaining about the new arrangement a police personnel on the condition of anonymity said, “The plan is not feasible. In fact, PHQ campus does not have the space to hold these many vehicles.
We used to park inside the white line. Penalty should be imposed on those who park outside the white line and create traffic disruption.”
According to the official sources this order has come into place after some senior officers had to face traffic disruption at the gates of PHQ itself.
It is also important to mention that on the other side of road the residents have objected to the orders stating that there is no other place for their guests to park except at the gates of their homes.
