Acting on the Chief Minister  Trivendra Singh Rawat’s instruction to police to go all-out to at least halve  the number of road  accidents, the State police claimed to be taking steps to implement the instruction on the ground.  State additional director general of police (ADGP) Ashok Kumar said on Monday that 140 black spots and 300 accidents prone areas have been identified so far. Besides, police force is being deployed   at the accident- prone areas to minimise the road accidents.

Drunk driving, over-speeding and overloading which account for most of the accidents along with faulty road engineering and mechanical snags in the vehicles are being checked, he said.

Kumar  further said that  in addition to these steps, awareness campaign is being conducted across the State from time to time to help the people, particularly the youngsters, to imbibe the traffic sense.

He said that the force would keep vigil on the roads to see to it that the commuters abide by the traffic rules, including the one related to donning helmet by those riding two-wheelers.
