'Police action shameful'

Condemning the police action to crush the people’s movement against crushers, eminent environmentalist Anil Joshi dubbed it as ‘shameful’. It is intriguing that the Chief Minister Harish Rawat has kept mum even 48 hours after the lathi charge that left many, including women, injured.  “This shows how insensitive he is. We believe the police went for the operation at the behest of the CM,” he said.

Taking to The Pioneer, he said Uttarakhand was created not to cater to the greed of the political leaders. Rather, it was created to help the hilly region move up developmentally in sync with its geographical/cultural genius, he said. Taking cudgels at the State Government, Joshi said it was hell-bent on finishing off the hills and the rivers by way of mining.

“We would not be cowed down by the repressive machinery let loose by the State Government when the existence of the State is at stake,” he said, adding that the anger simmering here would result in a larger Statewide conflagration in the coming days unless the State Government mended its disastrous ways.
