The president of City Bus Seva ‘Mahasangh’, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal accused police of bias towards commercial three wheelers such as Vikrams and auto-rickshaws, stating that they had only issued two challans under the section 179 (1) for violating the condition of permit and 39 challans under the section (122/77) for unauthorised parking.
On the other hand a senior district police official regarding the matter stated that their priority is to ensure law and order and proper traffic management. He further stated that issuing challan in the middle of the road disrupts traffic management.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, accusing the police Dandriyal said since it appears that police are trying to help the auto and Vikram drivers by not issuing challan under those sections in which they will have to pay hefty fines.
In the challans they issue for unauthorised parking the vikram drivers or owners only have to pay Rs 500. Countering the accusation a district police official on the condition of anonymity said that it is not the job of police to harass the poor by issuing challan so that their counterparts can get the upper hand.
He said that the transport department has enough resources to deal with such issues, police cannot interfere everywhere and thus it should not be held responsible for everything.
