The social activist Ashok Thapliyal said that Pauri municipal council keeps violating the orders of the National Green Tribunal and MSW rules despite 11 months having passed since National Green Tribunal had given its ruling regarding the disposal of garbage and waste products in the town. "It is a pity that the civic body, in general, and additional commissioner who is also the deputy director urban development seem to be sleeping over the ruling and consequently, garbage is being indiscriminately dumped around the town to detriment of the health of the people," he said.
Thapliyal said he would raise the issue at the National Green Tribunal on Tuesday during the hearing of petition lodged by the outfit he is leading. "NGT has allowed us to raise the matter if things are not satisfactory," he added.
Notably, NGT's principal bench New Delhi had permitted Pauri Municipal Council to use a particular site as proposed in the tribunal as a temporary dumping site in its ruling given in September last. This aside, NGT had directed that the collection, dumping and disposal of the garbage and waste should be strictly done in accordance with the MSW rules. It had also announced that in case the ruling was not acted upon the applicant was free to move the tribunal either by filling fresh petition or reviving the old petition. Thapliyal said he is moving NGT against Municipal Board, Uttarakhand Pollution Board and district administration for their failure to act on the ruling.
