A delegation led by Parliamentary Secretary and Rajpur Road MlA, Rajkumar met State Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi on Wednesday and demanded that the Doon hospital, which is now part of the Doon Medical College, should be reverted as District hospital.

The leader of the delegation Rajkumar said that the patients are suffering as the hospital is now converted into a medical college. He said that the hospital is more than 100 years old and serves a large population of Garhwal division and neighboring districts of Dehradun.

Rajkumar told the Minister that the district hospital should be centrally placed and the building of Doon hospital is best suited for it. He added that due to its location the hospital is very accessible for people of all walks of life and one can easily reach here by city buses, Vikrams, Taxi and other private vehicles.

The Congress leader said that if the district hospital is shifted elsewhere then people would face problems. He said that the construction work in the Gandhi Shatabdi Eye hospital, Dalanwala is still not complete though the work here was scheduled to be completed by 2010.

Rajkumar said that the Union Government had released a sum of `9.87 core for the hospital in the year 2014 but the work is still far from complete. He suggested that along with state of art eye hospital a cancer hospital should also be setup in its campus.

The Rajpur road MlA said that a modern cancer unit would serve a large population.  The minister assured the delegation that its demand would be looked into. Former district president of congress lal Chand Sharma, Neenu Sehgal, Veena Bisht, Ganga Chetri, Sitaram Nautiyal, Mangesh Kumar
