With a demand for creation of ethics committees and self-regulation among the doctors, a delegation led by Congress leader Asha Manorama Dobriyal Sharma met the president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and its other delegates on Monday.
The members of the delegation handed over a memorandum and also offered flowers to the doctors on the ocassion. The delegation demanded that ethics committees should be made at both the district and State levels. The members said that the status of doctor is second only to the god but in recent years the greed of some doctors has maligned the image of the doctors in the society.
Sharma said that the IMA after consultation with prominent personalities of society should enforce a self regulating mechanism on it. She said that if there is any provision of such a committee under Medical Council of India (MCI) then it should be effectively implemented.
The Congress leader said that some doctors in collusion with pathology and radiology centres are exploiting the patients which should be stopped. She said that it is a common knowledge that some doctors are offered commissions and given inducement of foreign trips by the pharmacy companies due to which they prescribe unnecessary and costly medicines to the patients.
Congress workers Harjeet Singh, Vinit Nagpal, Kuldeep Dobariyal, Harish Nagpal and others were present during the occasion.
