Plan afoot to shift MlCs, VIP duties done by GDMC to Pandit Deen Dayal Hospital

The state administration has started easing pressure of associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC). Under the plan the Medical legal Cases (MlCs) and the VIP duties hitherto done by the hospital would be shifted to the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Coronation) Hospital.

On the initiative of the state administration, a meeting at the Coronation hospital was organised on Wednesday. In the meeting a formal request to find a suitable district hospital was made to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun.   Similarly a proposal to shift the works like MlC and the VIP duties to the Coronation hospital was made to the government. The idea is to relieve the medical college hospital from these tasks.

The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the associated hospital of GDMC, Dr K K Tamta said that the students of II year MBBS course would now start attending the hospital for practical classes and in such a scenario it would be proper to keep the faculty members relieved of the works like MlC and VIP duties. A similar proposal was also made for the Post Mortem (PM) duties.

The meeting was attended by the Director Medical health, Dr l M Upreti, Director Medical education department, Dr Ashutosh Sayana, the CMO of Dehradun Dr T C Pant, MS of associated hospital of GDMC Dr K K Tamta and Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Coronation hospital, Dr l C Punetha.

It is worth mentioning here that there is no district hospital in state capital Dehradun. The Male and female district hospitals (Doon Male and Female) hospitals were merged with the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) to fulfill the obligation of a full fledged associated hospital for medical college. At that time (2015) it was claimed that it was a temporary arrangement and a new multi -specialty hospital would be setup for the medical college and the Doon hospital would remain the district hospital.

However even after almost two years the government is still indecisive on the issue. The administration of medical college is now slowly distancing itself from the works of the district hospital. The task of handing over MlC to Coronation hospital is part of this strategy but the problem is that the Coronation hospital too is under staffed to meet this challenge.
