Expressing concern at the untimely deaths of wild animals, the People For Animals (PFA) trustee Gauri Maulekhi has written to the State’s Forest and Wildlife Minister Harak Singh Rawat about the status of veterinarians in the Rajaji national park. She states, “The Forest department has posted two veterinary doctors in Rajaji but neither of the two is present in the national park’s rescue centre, Chilla or Chidiyapur. One of the vets has been sent for a 10-month training while the other vet has set up her headquarter in Dehradun.” She further writes, “The death of an elephant calf in Chilla could have been prevented and observance of other standard procedures could have prevented the deaths of other wild animals.
