With the Government of India cutting petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre, the Uttarakhand Government has also followed suit and slashed petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre. The Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat informed the media about this decision in a hurriedly called Press conference here on Thursday evening.
Rawat said, “I am happy to state that the Government of India has slashed petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2.50 per litre. The State Government too has done the same, decreasing the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre. With this, these fuels will cost about Rs 5 per less per litre from Thursday midnight onward. We have taken this decision to reduce the financial burden on the public. This decision will result in a Rs 325 crore annual burden on the State.
However, transportation and goods carriage would become cheaper and provide relief to the public.” About 40 crore litres of petrol and 90 crore litres of diesel are used in the State per year, he added.
When asked about how the State Government would try to tackle the financial burden resulting from reduction in fuel prices, the CM said that the State had increased its revenue from mining. “In the near future, with investments expected to rise and industrial activity too will increase. This will also help us enhance revenue,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that petrol costs Rs 83.79 per litre and diesel costs Rs 75.92 per litre in Uttarakhand, both of which will now cost Rs 5 less from Thursday midnight onward.
