'People should vote for a leader who is capable'

The first time voters and youth in Dehradun appear to be eager to exercise their franchise in the lok Sabha elections. Political parties too are trying to woo such voters with promises of facilitating development, corruption-free governance and a secure future.

Eighteen-year-old Ajay Gairola is curious to see how it would be to have a Government not under the Congress. “Congress has been heading the Central and State Governments for quite some time and now some other parties should be given a chance to prove their capability to govern more efficiently. The people are also looking for a change and I too will vote for a change- for better or worse,” he added.

Navin Moni, 22, said, “I don’t care about the party but the candidate that is capable of solving problems like improper supply of power and water in addition to road connectivity. Nothing gets done here without bribes, so I will favour a candidate who will ensure action against corruption and accord first priority to welfare of the nation,” he said.

First time voter Zakir Hussain said, “There has been a lot of corruption in the name of the development and in some parts people tend to vote the same leader back into office repeatedly,” he said while adding that people should vote for a new leader who is more efficient than those elected in the past. “Its time for a change to solve our major problems,” he said.
