People in hilly areas continue to suffer due to long power cuts

Published on:

Amid decreasing atmospheric temperature, unscheduled load shedding and that too for long hours continued to hit normal life in different parts of the region even on Tuesday.

Citizens who had to face power cuts for over  seven hours on Monday from 10. 30 to 5.30 pm, faced similar situation in different parts of the hill State including Haldwani on Tuesday. The electricity supply that went off around 10.30 am on Tuesday, resumed around 2.30 pm only for a brief period in different parts of Haldwani including Kushumkhera,  Kaldhungi Road to name a few places. The power supply was  again disrupted from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm in these areas  on Tuesday.

Among other factors shortage of availability of power seems to be one of the major reasons behind imposition of the unscheduled load shedding across the State. According to the figures provided by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl), whereas gross availability of power in Uttarakhand  on an average is around 29 million unit (mu) per day i.e. about 10 mu per day from domestic sources, about 11 mu per day  from Central pool and rest about 8  mu per day  from other sources, the demand for power has constantly been around   33 mu per day in the hill State.

Besides, technical faults at local levels are also causing disruption in smooth supply of electricity for long hours.
