After the declaration of State Government to provide 10 kg wheat and 10 kg rice to the persons belonging to Above Poverty line on Wednesday, the card holders began approaching the Public Distribution System (PDS) dealers to give them remaining rations on Thursday.
Some PDS dealers said that they had received rations 6 kg per card holder for this month and distributed among beneficiaries. According to them, Dehradun food and civil supply officer Shyam Arya has informed them about the decision but he has not been told about how they would manage to bridge the gap between supply and distribution.
One of the dealers said that he had received rations 6 kg rice and wheat per cards for 250 APl families in the first week of this month and rations were distributed among beneficiaries. After government’s decision, cardholders began approaching him to give them remaining rations. DSO had verbally told him to distribute 10 kg rations to APl cardholders but did not tell how they would manage to bride the gap.
In the absence of electronic balance in the RFC Godown, PDS dealers are getting five or six kg less than actual weight in each sack. He further alleged that due to this they have two option either give less weight to the card holders or charge extra money from card holders.
Dalanwala resident Pramila Rawat said that there are six members in her family and 6 kg rice and wheat are not enough to prepare food for the family members in a month. According to her, she had visited PDS shop for procuring remaining ration declared by the state government.
Though government has taken this decision by keeping in mind of local bodies’ election, those having big family members should have given more than 10 kg rice and wheat.
While talking to The Pioneer, Arya said that all the PDS dealers were directed to provide remaining rations to the beneficiaries. Shopkeepers will be allocated remaining rations till end of this month.
