The 24-hour protest fast to be organised by the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee in Delhi on Tuesday will now be staged at Jantar Mantar instead of Prime Minister’s residence as planned earlier. According to the PCC, the party’s senior leaders, Rajya Sabha MPs and State Cabinet Ministers among others are expected to attend the protest being headed by PCC chief Kishore Upadhyaya against the alleged apathy of the Centre towards Uttarakhand.

Informing about the change of venue of the protest, PCC spokesman Mathurdatt Joshi said that since the Delhi police did not give its permission for the protest planned outside the Prime Minister’s residence, the demonstration was shifted to the Jantar Mantar. He accused the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre of clamping down on non-violent protest.

He said the party will stage a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar under the leadership of PCC chief Kishore Upadhyaya who has exhorted the party cadre to participate in the protest in large numbers. The PCC spokesperson Shilpi Arora said that Rajya Sabha MPs Raj Babbar, Mahendra Singh Mahra, State in-charge Ambika Soni, co in charge Sanjay Kapoor and party MlAs among others would be present in large numbers at the protest.
