Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay and various party members participated in Gandhi-Nehru-Patel-Ambedkar rally taken out by the PCC to mark August Kranti Diwas in Dehradun on Sunday.Addressing the party cadre at the Congress Bhawan on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that August Kranti Diwas is a historical day in the national freedom struggle as it was on this day that Mahatma Gandhi gave the slogan of ‘quit India’ which was taken up by lakhs of people across the nation against the British imperial rule. He said, “The British rulers became scared and started quashing the movement without mercy. The imperialists began showering canes and bullets on those seeking freedom with many freedom fighters sacrificing their lives and many landing in jail. Despite facing such heavy odds, the people did not relent and continued to struggle till the nation achieved independence,” said the chief minister.
