PCC president appreciates PM for banning use of red beacon

Appreciating the prime minister Narendra Modi for prohibition on the use of red beacon on official vehicles of various categories, the PCC president Kishore Upadhyay opined that the Central Government had taken a leaf from the book of Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh. He said, “We are happy that the prime minister followed the example set by the Punjab chief minister who had first clamped down on the use of red- beacons. Even before that, when I was a cabinet minister during 2002 in Uttarakhand, I had got the red-beacon removed from my official car while also requesting that all cabinet ministers do the same. I had also requested in writing that police escorts with sirens should not accompany me on the road whenever I went outside the district. Now the BJP state government is indulging in a charade with ministers making a show of removing red beacons from their vehicles themselves whereas such a minor task could have been done by the drivers without fuss,” he opined.
