PCC organises protest against price rise, 'cover-up of NH-74 scam'

Opposing an alleged cover-up of the National Highway 74 scam and increased price burden on the general public, the Pradesh Congress Committee organised protests in all the district headquarters on Tuesday. Burning the Central and State Governments in effigy, the protesting Congress members also submitted memorandums addressed to the president on the occasion.

Speaking at the protest in Dehradun, PCC president Pritam Singh alleged that the BJP state government had taken various “anti-public” decisions during its term so far. “This is the first time when a State Government has recommended a CBI inquiry while the Union Minister concerned states that such a step will affect officers’ morale. The Chief Minister is being pressurised to withdraw recommendation for CBI probe. When the scam came to the cognisance of the previous Congress-led state government, it had been decided that a special investigation team would be formed for an unbiased probe. The agency concerned had also started work in this direction but after forming Government, the BJP transferred the official with attempts being made to cover-up the case,” said Singh. He also criticised the BJP Government at the Centre accusing it of failing to exert control on price-rise.
