Considering the thousands of people flocking to the Satat Vikas Sankalp Yatra being organised by the Congress in Uttarakhand, the party and the Congress-led State Government will be able to cross the figure of 40 seats in the Vidhan Sabha elections slated for 2017, claimed the PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay while meeting Congress national vice president Rahul Gandhi. According to the Congress Dehradun Mahanagar media in charge Mahesh Joshi.
Upadhyay led a party delegation which called upon the Congress national vice president. Upadhyay told Rahul Gandhi that thousands of people are coming to the Satat Vikas Sankalp Yatra being undertaken in the state and that an atmosphere is building up in favour of the Congress party. The party delegation also discussed some aspects of the political action plan for the assembly polls with the party national vice president. Inviting Rahul Gandhi to visit Uttarakhand, Upadhyay said that there is better coordination between the party organisation and the State Government. In the coming Vidhan Sabha election, the government and organisation together will be able to cross the figure of 40 seats and “a befitting reply will be given to the communal forces”.
According to Joshi, the party’s Dehradun Mahanagar chief Prithviraj Chauhan told Rahul Gandhi that since assuming the responsibility, small group meetings were held to establish direct communication with the party’s booth level workers with posts being accorded to them as per their capabilities. At present, the Dehradun Mahanagar unit is also in the process of facilitating formation of committees in all the five Vidhan Sabha constituencies falling under it at the block, ward and booth levels. At the same time, interactive programmes are being held to link the public with the various schemes of the government and ideology of the party. He further spoke of the ‘lead Your leader’ and ‘Parthana’ initiatives of the Mahanagar Congress, averring that these had gained popularity. “Under the lead Your leader programme we go to organisations and raise awareness among the youth with a considerable number of youngsters participating in such events. Under the Prarthana programme, the public is being made aware through temples and Bhajan Sandhya programme,” told Chauhan. The AICC national vice president also accepted the invitation to visit Dehradun on December 23. The party’s district head in Rudraprayag Pradeep Thapliyal, Mahanagar Congress Committee general secretary Kanchan Rangad and other party members were among those who met Rahul Gandhi on the occasion.
