The Congress has raised questions at the State Government for apparently avoiding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the national highway 74 scam. Amidst speculation on the possibility of SIT questioning the Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the PCC chief opined that the people of the State are doubting the intentions of the BJP for not ensuring a CBI probe. The PCC president said that in the past, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had talked of a CBI inquiry into the NH 74 scam. The Congress had supported this demand and had also raised this issue prominently from the road to the Vidhan Sabha. However, despite the State Government initially appearing to favour a CBI probe, later on the Central and State governments both appeared to be hesitant to get a CBI probe in this case. Singh said that by getting an SIT to probe the scam instead of facilitating a CBI inquiry, the state Government has given the public a reason to doubt its motives.
