PCC chief Pritam Singh demands ex gratia relief to victim families

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Pritam Singh has demanded that the state government should provide ex gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the dead and Rs 5 lakh to the injured in the Pithoragarh disaster.

Expressing grief at the loss of life and property in the landslide triggered by cloud burst in Tanga and Gaila villages of Munsyari in Pithoragarh district on Monday, Singh said that such incidents which happen during the rainy season every year are a scourge to Uttarakhand.

He said that the villages which are in sensitive areas or in danger zones should be shifted in safe areas.

In a letter written to chief minister (CM) Trivendra Singh Rawat, the PCC president alleged that the state disaster mitigation department failed to take precautionary measures even though the state meteorology department had issued warning of heavy rainfall in the state.
