The Association of Regularised Work Charge employees of Public Works Department (PWD) have expressed happiness at the State Government’s decision to increase their grade pay. President of the association BS Rawat addressed the media here on Thursday and thanked the State Government and the new Chief Minister Harish Rawat for fulfilling their long standing demand.

The State Government on Wednesday had increased the grade pay of the Work agents, mates, carpenters, plumbers, assistant mechanics, surveyors, mechanics, junior laboratory assistants and Roller foremen from `1,800 to `2,000. A total of 1,523 employees of these grades would be benefited by this increase. These employees of the field as they are normally called were agitating from 2012 to increase their grade pay.

Interestingly, the union of Ministerial employees of the State was against increasing the grade pay of the field employees. Anand Singh Sah the State general secretary of the Regularised Work charge employees of PWD said that the Government’s decision is a tight slap for those who were opposing the justified demand of the field employees. Pradeep Kohli the General Secretary of the Joint council of state government employees was also present on the occasion to congratulate the field employees of the PWD.

The field employees celebrated the increase in their pay by firing crackers and danced on the beats of the drums.
