Assuring the aggrieved police constables of his continued efforts to champion their cause, State Director General of Police BS Sidhu has appealed to them on Saturday to desist from any kind of stir that would affect discipline in the force. He even said he would quit in case their salary-related grievances remain unaddressed by December 31. “Hopefully, my successor would accomplish things,” he said. “Police are known for maintaining discipline and it would send a wrong message among the people of the State if they break the law and act like an undisciplined force,” he said.
The State Police top brass is in a quandary with the fact being known that many of the senior cops are morally supporting the police constables’ agitation against alleged pay anomalies. Things are deepening further as they are intensifying stir through social networking.
In addition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have thrown their weights behind the cause. They had slammed the Congress-led State Government for ignoring the justified demand of the aggrieved policemen.
Some policemen have sounded disappointment over chief secretary having evaded the main issue of the distemper, citing resource crunch, during his Wednesday’s Press conference.
Meanwhile, a section of the aggrieved cops acted on the threat of skipping meals at Police line on Thursday. Things would further move as their family members have threatened to launch protest at Parade Ground on August 31.
In his message to the policemen, State DGP Sidhu reiterated his vow to stand by the policemen in weal and woe. He mentioned that he had earlier sent proposals to the State Government to rectify the pay anomalies. He said he would continue to try his best in the coming days to bring cheers for them. But in case he fails he would appeal to the state government to relieve him and replace him with a more competent officer.
He advised policemen to restrain themselves from any agitation against the State Government. A few of the policemen are spreading remour through social media. They are provoking policemen to participate in the campaign against State Government. They should better execute their duty effectively instead of getting entrapped in the vicious net of machinations, he said.
