Pauri residents continue to face potable water crisis

Published on:

The paucity of potable water faced by those living in Pauri is yet to be resolved due to the callous approach of the department concerned. Although the officials claimed that the Nanghat project has started delivering as per required standards, the situation is still far from being normal.

After facing the brunt of the natural calamities that struck Uttarakhand in the month of June, the problem of shortage of potable water has increased manifold as the potable water pipelines were badly damaged.

Although the Peyjal Nigam officials have claimed that the stern instructions have been released to repair the damaged potable water pipelines, more steps are yet to be taken by the department. Besides, delay in completing the Naanghat potable water project at Pauri further increase the plight of the residents.

However, department officials claimed that the project is almost completed for quenching the thirst of the residents, but reality is something very different which was claimed by the department.

It is also equally important to mention here is that the project was sanctioned in the last financial year for quenching the thirst of the residents at  Pauri but failed to meet with its purpose.

Department sources revealed that the more than 90 per cent construction work has been already completed with an estimate cost of `41 crore for completing the project.

Sources revealed that the frequent breakdown at the project has been hampering department’s efforts for quenching the thirst of the residents. Sources confirmed that gravity water is the main source for the 76 kilometers Naanghat potable water project.

It is noteworthy that the project is situated in the remote area of Thalisain Tehsil in Pauri district and is located in the midst of a forested area. This project was designed to supply 4.25 MlD water per day.

The first phase of the project 2.6 MlD water is being supplied to Pauri town. One filter of 2.6 MlD capacity has been installed whereas one reservoir of 13500 kilo litres capacity has been constructed at Nagdev. The full 4.25 MlD water will be distributed in the second phase of the project in the year 2017.

The water of this project is being supplied to Nagdev, Kinkuleshwar, Hanuman and IPS reservoir. One of the department sources revealed that the more than 80 of the funds were already released to bring the project to the ground level.

After ruling out any lethargic work or using sub standard material while bringing the project to the ground level, he told that project will surely quench the thirst of the residents, once completes in the near future.
