Pauri limps under poor work culture; lax officers rule the roost

Published on:

Despite the State Chief Minister Harish Rawat  asking for the improvement of the work culture in the Government offices in August last year, things have not changed for the better in the least in Pauri district. The    officers and the employees come late and leave early, reducing to ridicule  what  the CM stressed.

According to an order, head and the district level officers must mark their attendance every Monday at 12 pm and every Saturday at 4 pm at the district collectorate office. The DM was asked to see to it that the order was implemented in full.

Pauri DM Chandra Shekhar Bhatt found that  as many as 11 officers on July 2 (a Saturday) and 14 on July 4 (a Monday) did not mark their attendance as per the order. Angry over the order being flouted thus, Bhatt asked the HoD of the departments concerned to take action against the errant officers. He also asked the HoD to send the names of the officers concerned to the State Government.

The DM warned the Government department employees in the district  against boozing in the office. He made it clear that no leave would be sanctioned without the permission of officer concerned  and that of  the DM during  the rainy season.

The common people say that they suffer with the employees and their officers giving a short shrift to their duties. “The work culture seems to have touched its nadir. They are a  happy lot,  coming late and leaving early, making  fun of the state government’s order.  If the DM can change things for the better it would prove good for all of us,” said  Arun Negi, a  resident of Pauri.
