The Jan Aushadi Kendra (JAK) of the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here selling cheap generic medicines was closed on Thursday.
The medical college which was running this facility had handed over the functioning of the JAK to the Red Cross society last month. The society which was supposed to take the responsibility of running the store from May 1 has still not resumed its charge.
On the other hand the medical college after handing over the store to Red Cross society had stopped purchasing medicines for the store due to which the stock of medicines of the store had exhausted.
When contacted, the secretary of the Dehradun Red Cross Society, Dr MS Ansari told The Pioneer that the society is waiting for the licence from the drug controller.
“We have recruited the staff for the store and applied for the necessary license at the office of Drug controller. On May 22, we have convened a meeting of managing committee of the society in which issues like purchase of medicines, other equipment and profit margin of the store would be decided. The society would resume operation of the store once the licence is issued,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the closure of the important store selling branded medicines has created problems for the patients.
The JAK of the hospital is popular among patients as it draws 80-100 patients per day and has a monthly sale of Rs 2.5 lakh to three lakh.
