Patients continue to suffer at GDMC after CT scan machine remains out of service

The patients visiting the biggest hospital of the state, the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) are suffering due to non functioning of machines like CT Scan and Electro Encephalogram (EEG).

The CT scan machine of the hospital is non functional from last three months. The company responsible for the maintenance of the important radio diagnostic machine had earlier refused to repair the machine if its pending payment for upkeep of the machine is not released soon. The budget for repair of the CT scan machine was finally cleared by the state government recently. After much delay the company started the work on repair of the machine on Monday. The hospital authorities claimed that the initial check up of the machine is completed and if there is a problem in software than it would be rectified in a day or two. The machine could take up more time to get corrected if the problem is of hardware.

This machine is non functional since December 14 last year causing problems to the patients who now have to depend on the costly private hospitals and clinics.  It is worth mentioning here that the CT scan machine of the hospital is the only facility in government health centre in Dehradun and nearby areas. The private radiology centres are reaping a rich harvest of the malfunctioning of the important radio diagnostic machine as patients of flocking them in large numbers.

The CT scan machine was installed in the erstwhile Doon hospital in the year 2004. The manufacturer of the machine ‘Siemens International’ also holds the maintenance contract of the machine.

Apart from CT scan the EEG machine of the hospital is also dysfunctional from more than six months now.
