The patients are bearing the brunt as Computer assisted Tomography (CT) scan and digital X-ray machines of the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) are not working properly. The CT scan machine of the hospital is non-functional from Thursday due to which the patients advised radio diagnostic test are facing problem.

A team of the engineers is working to repair the machine. Meanwhile to aggravate the problems of the patients, the digital X -ray machine of the hospital also played truant on Saturday. Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Dr KK Tamta said that the company entrusted with the maintenance of CT scan machine was immediately informed about the malfunction of the machine and the engineers are working to bring the machine back to order. He said that the digital X- ray machine too would be repaired soon. Meanwhile, the woes of the department of radiology increased on Saturday when the lone digital X ray machine of the hospital also developed a snag. More than 300 X rays are done in the hospital per day. In absence of this facility the entire load has fallen on the old X ray machine which is not in a position to do such large number of X rays. The CT scan machine of the hospital severs more than 50 patients per day.

The CT scan machine of the hospital is prone to repeated breakdowns. The machine was dysfunctional for more than three months earlier this year.

The CT scan machine of the hospital is the only facility in government health centre in Dehradun and nearby areas. The private radiology centres are reaping a rich harvest of the malfunctioning of the important radio diagnostic machine as patients are flocking them in large numbers. This machine was installed in the erstwhile Doon hospital in the year 2004. The manufacturer of the machine ‘Siemens International’ also holds the maintenance contract of the machine.
