The doctors at Kailash hospital here have claimed that a patient with 85 percent deep electric burn injuries was treated successfully by them.  Informing the newsmen about this rare achievement, the Director of the hospital, Pawan Sharma said that Salman an 18 year old boy was brought to the hospital in a very bad condition on March 3.

“He was working in an under construction house in Mokampur area when the iron rod he was carrying accidentally touched the overhead high tension wire carrying a current of 11000 volts. The electrocution cause fatal burns in his body,’’ he said.

The Senior Consultant of Head of Department (HOD) of Burns and Plastic Surgery wing of the hospital, Dr Harish Ghildiyal said that Salman was diagnosed with 85 percent burn injuries. He said that the relatives of the boy were clearly told about his very critical condition. “Skin is the most important protective organ of human body and burn results in easy entry of microbes. As the percentage and depth of burns increase the condition becomes critical. The patients with 85 percent burn rarely survive. The immediate challenge was to salvage whatever tissues were remaining and to prevent burnt tissues from infection,’’ he said.

The burn specialist further informed that the patient was treated with strict aseptic techniques in the highly advanced ‘Burns ICU’ with latest equipment. Dr Ghildiyal said that results started showing in form of wound healing. Apart from burn specialists the team included Intensivist who kept the general condition of patient under control, dietician who kept an eye over calorific and protein requirement and physiotherapists. After undergoing treatment for 50 days, Salan was released on Monday. Salman on his part thanked the doctors for saving his life.
