Blaming the hospital authorities for death of a patient, some people vandalised a private hospital here on Wednesday. The relatives of the deceased blamed the doctors of Bharat Heart Institute located on EC road here, for not taking proper care of the patient suffering from a heart ailment.
It is learnt that Rampal Singh (68 years) a resident of Dl road was admitted in the hospital on October 1. His family members rushed him to Bharat heart Institute as he complained of chest pain. He was declared dead by the doctors at 12 noon on Wednesday following which the angry family members engaged in vandalism in the hospital.
The window panes of the hospital were smashed and furniture broken by the relatives of the deceased. The owner of the hospital Dr Chetan Sharma left the spot and was not available for comments. On hearing about the incident police arrived on the spot and pacified the agitated family members.
The son of deceased Rajneesh Kumar said that initially doctors informed that Rampal Singh was suffering from edema of lungs and started his treatment. He claimed that later the hospital demanded a sum of `4 lakh from the family.
Kumar alleged that the hospital demanded this sum for putting stents in the heart of patient even though no angiography was done on the patient. The family deposited a sum of `2 lakh on Wednesday morning and sought some time for arranging the remaining amount. The son further alleged that the doctors of the hospital overlooked his ailing father as they were waiting for the entire sum to be deposited.
The in-charge of Dalanwala police station, SS Samant told The Pioneer that no written complaint against the hospital was submitted by the family members of the deceased. He added that the family members even refused for post mortem and took the body for cremation.
