Pathology labs raided, irregularities found

A team of personnel from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office of Dehradun raided many private pathology labs on Monday and found glaring irregularities in at least six labs.

The office of CMO was getting complaints of irregularities and blatant violation of norms by these labs especially in tests of dengue. The complainants informed the Department that big difference in findings of dengue tests were observed when the sample of same patient was tested at two facilities simultaneously. The office of district magistrate too was receiving complaints about functioning of some of the pathology labs.

The team of CMO office on the day found irregularities at Anita pathology lab, New Doon pathology lab, Hightech Pathology lab, Dr Oberoi pathology lab, Saharanpur road, Dr Saini Pathology lab Gandhi Gram and Dr Pundir Pathology labs.

It is learnt that many of the labs were working without certified technicians while some of them didn’t have the NOC for disposal of biomedical wastes. To its horror the raiding team found that some of the technicians working in these labs didn’t even possess a matriculation degree.

The CMO of Dehradun, Dr YS Thapliyal said six labs had been issued notices by his office in which they are asked to explain detected irregularities within next three days. He said if these labs failed to provide necessary documents than the procedure of sealing them would be initiated.
