Parliament-passed lokpal bill: Cabinet meeting tomorrow

In a bid to implement the lokpal bill which was passed by the Parliament on December 18 and once approved by the President then it would become Act, the Uttarakhand Government is going to implement it in the State. In this regard, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has called a Cabinet meeting on December 26. Sources said that CM Bahuguna wants to make Uttarakhand the first State to implement lokayukta in the State.

Talking to the media, CM Bahuguna categorically said that Uttarakhand will be the first State to implement a lokayukta Act based on the anti-corruption law passed by the Parliament.

"Passage of lokpal has been historic. I am grateful to our central leaders for this. Uttarakhand will lead the rest of the States in the country in implementing a lokayukta Act based on the lokpal legislation passed by Parliament," Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna added.

With this statement, the CM Bahuguna has conveyed the message that the State lokayukta Act, which was passed by the Gen Khanduri Government in 2011, will not be implemented at any cost.

The CM Bahuguna had reservations about implementing the Uttarakhand lokatyukta Act passed during Maj Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri's tenure as chief

minister and was keen on making amendments to it before bringing it into force.

The chief minister said the provisions of the lokayukta Act passed by the Gen Khanduri Government did not form part of the lokpal bill passed by lok Sabha on December 18 and Uttarakhand's lokayukta Act will be based on the one passed by Parliament and not the one passed by the State Assembly.
