A day after an apparently planned fracas at the foundation laying function of the waste treatment plant at Shishambada, demand arose for facilitating a probe into the allegedly illegal land dealings and encroachment on sites including the riverbed and banks in the area around.
The situation has also added to the organisational woes of the Congress party in Uttarakhand with both support and opposition being perpetuated by different MlAs and office bearers of the party.
When The Pioneer asked Rajpur Road MlA and Parliamentary Secretary Rajkumar on the alleged anomalies in the land and real estate activities in areas near the site of the Shishambada waste treatment plant, he said that he would approach Chief Minister Harish Rawat and demand a fair and proper probe into these allegations.
“The construction of the waste treatment plant and landfill at Shishambada is going to facilitate a major improvement in the scientific disposal of waste generated not only in the area under the purview of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun but also in other surrounding areas of Vikasnagar and Sahaspur among others. The planned and financed protests against the said waste treatment plant at Shishambada strengthen cause for suspecting dubious land dealings here. Illegal plotting of land and other forms of encroachment and illegal constructions in the said area around the Asan river should be thoroughly probed,” he said, while adding that he will communicate his demand for this investigation to the Chief Minister.
It is worth mentioning here that the foundation laying function for the Shishambada waste treatment plant here on Monday saw some local Congress leaders opposing the initiative cleared by the Congress-led State Government.
