'Parents, teachers must share duty in nurturing kids' talent'

Parents and teachers must share the responsibility of nurturing talent in children, said Pauri district magistrate Chandra Shekhar Bhatt. He was speaking at the 41st annual day celebration at St Thomas Convent School Pauri in the presence of Bishop John Vadakel, the president of the Education Society of Bijnor Diocese.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the DM appreciated the cultural presentations put up by the school students, adding that it had refreshed his childhood memories. Bhatt said that both the parents and teachers are jointly responsible to facilitating a proper platform for children to exhibit and develop their talents. The students should be allowed to choose their line of study and interests which should not be thrust upon them by their parents. Addressing the students, he said that there is no substitute for hard work, adding that students should also be active in co-curricular activities in addition to their academics.

Speaking on the occasion, Reverend Vadakel recalled that the school had been started with just one student in Pauri and now it had developed into one of the best schools in the region. Expressing concern at human activities proving detrimental to the environment, he said, “Our mission is to develop the institution to enhance the education. About 40,000 children are studying in schools of the diocese but we have never forced anyone for religious conversion,” he added. Meritorious students scoring high in ICSE and ISC examinations were also felicitated on the occasion.
