Parents prefer to keep mum

The private school owners who are minting money in all possible means from the parents of the students studying in their schools become emboldened by the non-confrontationist mindset of the parents.

The worried parents prefer not to complain about acts of blatant loot of these schools due to the fear of discrimination against their wards.

This fear is evident in the calls that are coming at the helpline number of the complaints counter located at the district education office. The dealing staff at the counter told The Pioneer that many parents refused to disclose their identity while giving the complaints.

The staff at the counter did not register these unnamed complaints. The Right to Education (RTE) also demands that the written complaints should be lodged by the parents in case of RTE violations. One such parent told this correspondent that everyone was aware and angry about the loot of the private schools but since the matter involved children, people generally preferred to keep quite. The parents feared that any complaint would invite the ire of school authorities against their wards. Some of the harassed parents of the city got together and formed an association to deal with the private schools. The president of the association Niraj Singhal called a meeting at GMS road recently and discussed the measures to counter the private school operators. Singhal said that all the parents should become united to fight for their rights. Such attempts, however, are not enough to tame the private school operators who work in tandem and have a powerful lobby.
