Parents' participation pivotal to monitor quality education

To impart quality education in the Government schools, parents have been requested to participate and monitor the school activities. The additional secretary and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) State project director Radhika Jha said that parents-teachers meeting will be held in the last week of each month.

School teachers have been directed to visit the home of those students occasionally whose parents do not attend parents teachers meeting. Teachers should inform the parents about their wards’ performance in academic and other activities imparted in the schools, she added.

According to her, the education officers have been deployed occasionally for inspecting different SSA schemes being executed in the schools. To enhance the education in Government schools, she has directed the school principals to organise parents teachers meeting on Sunday, the last week of each month.

Jha further said that parents and community leaders should cooperate with the school administration to impart quality education.

With the school principal, they should review students’ performance, academic and other activities in the school. Apart from this, they should direct the principal to take steps for the improvement of academic atmosphere in the school.

According to her, several schemes like midday meal scheme, continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) and others are operational in all the government schools of the state. “We might not achieve the desired goal regarding students’ performance without active participation of parents and community leaders," she said.

All the schools have been directed to conduct special classes for students not performing well. Students should be inculcated with the habit of regular visit to the library.

Students’ box file should be monitored by the parents regularly. In the PT meeting, topics related to important sections of Right to Education (RTE) Act, status of MDMS execution, students’ health check up, ongoing works in the schools and others will be discussed with the parents and communities.

Two parents teachers meetings will be held in schools where number of enrolled students is more than 100, she added.
