Parents' body gherao CEO office

Agitated over the alleged indifferent attitude of the State Education Department towards the ‘open loot’ of private school operators in the State, the members of the Asian Public School unit of the Uttarakhand Parents association gheraoed the office of Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Dehradun on Thursday.

The members of the association barged into the office of CEO, SP Khali and demanded action against the school management. The parents alleged that the school administration has arbitrarily increased the annual fees. The State president of the association Neeraj Singhal said the CEO has ordered an inquiry in the matter and asked the school management not to force the fees increase till the report of the inquiry is received by him.

Singhal said the private school operators have stooped to very low levels to demand money from the parents.  He warned that the hapless parents would be forced to start a massive agitation as their repeated pleas have not bore fruits.

Singhal said the district administration should implement the GO according to which the private schools are restricted to increase fees once in three years. Similarly, the district administration should force the private schools to implement only the books of National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) as they are cheap and good in content.

The parents association is also demanding that the private schools should constitute Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) so that some sort of control is observed on the activities of the schools.
