A delegation of All Uttarakhand Parents’ Association met with the Secretary School Education MC Joshi on Wednesday and demanded that the State Government ensure adequate representation of parents in the drafting committee of proposed regulatory authority for private schools.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum to the Education Secretary in which the association said that views of such parents should be taken by the drafting committee of the regulatory authority who are conversant with the issue.
State Chief Minister Harish Rawat had recently announced creation of a regulatory authority to rein in the private school operators of State.
In the memorandum the association also demanded that all the schools of the State should compulsorily constitute Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) and added that the admission of poor students in all the private schools should be transparent and as per the provisions of universal Right to Education (RTE).
The president of the Parent’s association Neeraj Singhal told Joshi many private schools of the State are forcing their students to buy books of private publishers which are costly and poor in quality as compared with the books of National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT).
The members of the parent’s association also met the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Dehradun, S P Khali and expressed their disappointment on the report submitted by DEO (primary) Parmendra Saklani on the ‘The India Academy School’.
The parents of the school had complained that the school management is arbitrarily increasing the fees every year. The DEO in his report justified the increase by stating that the fees increase is less than 10 Percent. The association alleged that the report of the DEO is biased towards the school management.
