Calling the officials of the education department inefficient to deal with the private school operators, a delegation of Uttarakhand Parents Association met the Director-General (DG) of School Education D Senthil Pandian on Tuesday.
The delegation informed the DG that association is agitating against the hegemony of the private schools for long and every time they meet some senior officer of administration or education department they direct the issue to the Block Education Officers (BEO) or District Education Officers (DEO) who invariably sit over such complaints.
The delegation alleged that these officers do not have power and conviction to stand up to the private school owners who exercise tremendous political and social clout. The DG assured the delegation that the department is in process of formulating a policy for the private schools.
The delegation handed over a memorandum to the DG listing the autocratic ways of the private school owners. The President of the association Neeraj Singhal said that the department should enforce the GO governing the private schools in right earnest and prevent these schools from increasing fees every year.
He said that all the schools should be asked to constitute Parent Teachers Associations (PTAs) restrain the owners of private schools. The association also demands that the private schools should be forced to recommend only the books of NCERT which are much cheaper and are of better in content and quality.
