The members of All Uttarakhand Parents Association met the union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Smriti Irani at her office in New Delhi on Monday and apprised her about the open loot of private schools of state.
The President of the association Neeraj Singhal said that the HRD minister was informed that many CBSE and ICSE board affiliated schools of the state are not following the norms laid down in the universal Right to Education (RTE) act and not giving admissions to poor students as envisioned in the act. The delegation demanded that these schools should be forced to set up Parent Teacher Association (PTA) so that some sort control is there on the functioning of schools. The members also demanded that the schools should compulsorily use the books of NCERT and the entire process of admissions under RTE should be made transparent. Singhal said that the association raised demand for setting up a regulatory authority for the private schools on the lines of higher education. He said that the HRD minister assured them that she would direct the CBSE, ICSE and State Government to look in the matter.
The delegation was represented by Neeraj Singhal, Ratan Singh Chauhan, Babita Rani Verma, Sanjay Bhatnagar and Arif Khan. Meanwhile the education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani said in Dehradun on Monday that the state government is working on formulating a policy for the private schools so that the parents are saved from their harassment.
