Demanding CBI inquiry over alleged rape-cum-murder of a 12-year-old-girl by some unidentified person in a sugarcane field on January 7 in Haridwar district, parents of the victim along with some social activists continued their protest on the second day at Parade Ground in Dehradun on Monday.
later, they also submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Harish Rawat. The protesters warned that they will intensify their protest unless their demands are met. Victim’s parents along with around dozen members of some NGOs have been protesting at Parade Ground since Sunday demanding CBI inquiry of the rape cum murder of the girl.
They claimed that Chief Minister Rawat came to their home after the incident and promised to facilitate a CBI inquiry if police failed to solve this case soon. Previous CM Vijay Bahuguna had also assured a CBI inquiry if police failed to nab the accused in a fortnight.
More than three months have passed after the crime was committed but police are yet to solve this case and are clueless about the culprit. The protesters alleged that the State Government has failed to fulfill its promises by not ordering CBI inquiry in this case. “I do not need financial assistance from the State Government but justice for my daughter,” the victim’s mother stressed.
She further said, “My daughter had gone to answer nature’s call in the open field at 8 am on January 7. I started searching for her when she failed to return after half an hour. I feared she had been abducted and on finding one of her sandals in the field I phoned the police. When I informed the police about my daughter’s abduction, police said she might have eloped with her boyfriend. Police started searching for my daughter after 10.30 am following repeated requests. Had police reacted swiftly after the incident, they might have collected some more evidences which could have helped solve the case,” she added, while demanding suspension of the then Pherupur police post in-charge who had reacted late after being informed.
