Parental pressure is taking its toll on the nerves of the students as board examination is fast approaching. They are also under the fear of the examination and calling up the helpline of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for counselling. The board examinations of CBSE are slated to start from March 5.
The CBSE’s designated counsellor and Associate Professor at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) here Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta said that large numbers of students are complaining about the pressure their parents are exerting on them to excel in the examinations. “My advice to such parents is that they should stop transferring their stress on their wards.
They should rather make things easy for their children, take care of their food and ensure that they are taking adequate sleep. They should not dictate terms, should let children make their time table,’’ she said.
The CBSE counsellor said that many students are complaining that though they are studying hard they are having apprehensions that they don’t remember anything. She said that such students under extreme anxiety and they should pep themselves up, have confidence in their abilities.
Dr Sona Kaushal said that the call pattern of the students reveal that the subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Accountancy trouble them the most. She opined that the students should practice the subjects with numerical and formula based questions daily to keep away the pressure about them during the examination time. The CBSE counsellor further said that some of the students are under guilt that they have not prepared well for the examination and many of them say that they cry a lot these days. “Such students should keep their confidence high and develop a positive approach,’’ she added.
To help students suffering from stress related to the examinations the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has opened a helpline. It is a common observation that the students tend to get tensed as the examination draws near. Many a times this tension gets converted into stress which becomes detrimental for the physical and mental health. The CBSE starts the tele- counselling sessions for the students before the examinations where counsellor talks to the students to help them out.
