Para-military personnel seek 'one rank-one pension' benefits

After denying time to meet AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi in his scheduled public rally slated to take place in Dehradun on Sunday, members from the para-military forces of Uttarakhand also demanded from the Union Government to sanction benefit of one rank one pension to them. The demand was pressed after the Union Government has announced to sanction the year-long pending demand of defence ex-servicemen.

The members also urged from the Union Government to sanction more perks and benefits to para-military forces with an aim to prove their social and economic conditions. Well established sources revealed that different wings of the party are likely to participate in the public rally and the veteran Congress leaders are in a mood to make the proposed rally a giant ‘success’ ahead of general elections.

In an exclusive interaction with The Pioneer, BSF IG (Retd) SS Kothiyal, State president, Ex-Central Armed Police Force Personnel Association highlighted that para-military personnel also strive round the clock for safeguarding our frontiers. “The service pattern of the para-military personnel is the same as the Indian defence forces and even tougher in the higher parts of the country,” he averred, adding that the Union Government should draft a concrete plan for sanctioning year-long pending demands of the para-military forces as they have been in the service of the nation since its formation.

IG Kothiyal also demanded from the Union Government to introduce effective measures for the upliftment of social-economic status of retired para-military personnel.

According to him, the Union Government should also introduce beneficiary schemes and projects for upliftment of next of kin of all those para-military personnel, who fell in the line of duty. IG Kothiyal highlighted that para-military forces also deserve the same monetary perks and non-monetary benefits like all three wings of the Indian defence forces enjoy.
