The 97th Kisan Mela will be organised by the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) in Pantnagar from March 13 to 16 this year. This decision was taken by the Kisan Mela advisory committee at a meeting chaired by the university registrar Dr J Kumar.

After the director, Extension Education, Dr YPS Dabas presented the minutes of past meetings for last Kisan Mela, proposals regarding the formation of various committees and programmes in the coming Kisan Mela were discussed in detail. Of the topics suggested for special lecture series to be held in the Kisan Mela, the advisory committee selected the need for mechanisation of agriculture, cattle management and techniques for fruit-vegetable processing as subjects for the lectures. The budgetary allocation for the Kisan Mela, security arrangement, night accommodation and other aspects were also deliberated upon.

All members of the advisory committee stressed on the need for special focus on ensuring cleanliness during the Kisan Mela and recommended penalty for stall holders responsible for littering.

The university registrar said that the Kisan Mela had become part of the university's identity with the farmers retaining their trust in the event consistently.

He stressed on the need for taking necessary steps to provide more facilities to farmers visiting the fair. He directed the official concerned to draft a proposal and submit a demand-letter for necessary funds to develop the venue of future Kisan Melas.
